Neodymium magnets
Neodymium, discovered in 1885, was alloyed with iron and boron in the early 1980s to create the powerful “neodymium magnets” we use today. Despite the term “rare earth magnets,” neodymium is as common as tin or lead. This term refers to a specific group of elements in the periodic table with similar chemical properties.
Neodymium magnets are significantly more powerful than ferrite magnets. Their magnetic strength is indicated by the “N” number; higher numbers denote stronger magnets, ranging from N27 to N52.
